The pandemic was the tipping point for mental health . As a result of those hard months, it was a topic that began to be given the importance it should have. It is necessary to make it visible and for new initiatives to take care of the mental health of people who need it to emerge.
That is why, throughout this month, we want to offer greater support to the cause, offering the possibility that, when you go to finish your order, you can contribute a small financial aid to SANICLOWN , our NGO of the month, an association of hospital clowns who have started an initiative for the psychiatric unit.
Who are they?
Saniclown is a National Non-Profit Association of Hospital Clowns declared of National Public Utility, conceived in 2004, to contribute to the emotional well-being of hospitalized people , their families and health personnel, through the game and the poetry of the clown .
In addition, they are leaders in the training of hospital clowns in Spain, and co-founders of the Spanish Federation of Hospital Clowns.
In its 18 years of existence, it has reached more than 34,000 direct beneficiaries (hospitalized people) and more than 85,000 indirect beneficiaries (families and health personnel).
Why is your work so important?
They have proven that hospitalized people suffer important psychic-emotional effects in the process of hospitalization and illness.
The emotional well-being of patients and the humanization of the hospital are the main objective. To achieve this, through humor and games, they manage to release and discharge tensions , and return control of the situation to the patient.
What do they need the money for?
They will carry out a theater workshop with the juvenile psychiatry patients of the Gregorio Marañón Hospital, who the health personnel consider fit to participate in the activity.
The session is made up of various group dynamics in which practical theater and improvisation sessions are given. They are generally patients associated with anxiety, depression , behavioral problems; Attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity; eating disorders etc
Being a group subject to strict guidelines for their recovery , and having a space for leisure, fun and stress relief, allows them to continue with more energy in the harsh treatment .
Once the session is over, the participants express their emotions about the activity. The number of direct beneficiaries is 10-15 participants per workshop . They are held once a week and the cost per workshop is €150 .
