If you have ever heard the term skincare in English, but you have doubts about what exactly it means or what it is for, keep reading because we are going to answer all your questions. Skincare is facial skin care, it is associated with the facial routines that we follow and the products that we use daily to keep the skin clean, hydrated, protected and healthy.
A good routine not only improves the appearance of the skin, it also has long-term benefits and prevents problems such as acne, premature aging and dehydration. The steps to follow expand as you identify the specific needs of your skin (acne, redness, spots, expression lines, etc.). However, effectiveness in many cases depends on correctly identifying what type of ingredient or active ingredient. It should be used for every need.
A simple facial routine includes at least three essential steps: cleanse, moisturize and protect.
1. Double cleansing : Facial cleansing is necessary to remove dirt, makeup residue, oil and other impurities that accumulate on the skin during the day.
2. Hydration : Moisturizers are necessary to keep the skin soft and hydrated.
3. Sun protection : protect your skin from external aggressors that damage it, use blockers from environmental pollution, sunlight and artificial lights from screens and electronic devices, to prevent the appearance of signs of premature aging.

Before starting a skincare routine, it is necessary to know what your skin type is and its particular needs. There are four types :
1. Normal skin : normal skin is balanced and does not present notable problems, but it does need daily care to keep it soft, flexible, without imperfections or enlarged pores.
2. Dry skin : this type of skin is usually dull, tight, rough and flaky and needs extra hydration and moisture to minimize the premature appearance of wrinkles, irritations or itching. Combine moisturizing products with hydrators to improve skin's radiance and appearance.
3. Oily skin : It is shiny and oily, prone to acne and other blemishes. The pores are more visible, as they are dilated. Clean it two or three times a day, with gentle cleansers to eliminate bacteria, toxins and excess oil. Exfoliate your face at least once a week. Do not abuse drying products that often dehydrate.
4. Combination skin : It is a combination of dry and oily skin in the T zone (forehead, nose and chin). Use toners or balancing creams to even out your skin.
The most important thing is to learn how to choose the right skincare products for each skin type and need. Learning to read labels and knowing which active ingredients benefit your skin is the most difficult, but, without a doubt, the most important.
Niacinamide, retinol, hyaluronic acid, centella asiatica are some of the trendy active ingredients for skin care. But which one is the most suitable according to your needs?
1. Dry skin : hyaluronic acid has great restorative and water retention capacity. Ceramides and glycerin allow us to establish a protective barrier on the skin that prevents hydration from evaporating. Shea butter is a wonderful source of hydration.
2. Oily skin : to control excessive sebum production, prevent pores from clogging and prevent shine, salicylic acid (BHA) penetrates the interior of the pore, dissolving fat and controlling the appearance of imperfections. Glycolic acid (AHA) is also a good ally for acne-prone skin, as it has exfoliating properties that eliminate dead cells and renew the skin. Jojoba oil regulates sebum and balances hydration so that the skin does not generate more oil than necessary.
3. Combination skin : Hyaluronic acid is essential to keep skin healthy and hydrated at an optimal level. Vitamin C improves texture and revitalizes the skin.
4. Sensitive skin : Niacinamide is ideal for repairing the skin barrier. Centella asiatica has soothing and healing properties and helps maintain optimal moisture in the skin. Ceramides are the active ingredient par excellence for sensitive skin, they strengthen and protect the skin barrier and maintain its hydration.
5. Mature skin : Retinol is the anti-aging active ingredient par excellence. Promotes collagen synthesis, reduces wrinkles and expression lines, improves dark spots and provides luminosity. A plant alternative would be Bakuchiol . Other efficient ingredients for this type of skin are vitamin C or peptides .
