Original vs. fake perfumes: how to identify them

How to know if a perfume is original or not

Follow our advice and learn how to distinguish a fake from an original perfume.

1. Presentation and packaging: Pay attention to the packaging and the appearance of the box, which often gives us key details. Original perfumes use high-quality engraved glass, meticulous details, impeccable finishes and no visible imperfections. On the other hand, counterfeits are often created with cheaper materials, simpler presentations and may contain printing errors on the packaging.

2. Batch code: all perfumes have a batch code printed on both the box and the bottle, which identifies the manufacturing number of the perfume. It is made up of numbers and letters and the number on the box must match the number on the bottle; if it does not match, be suspicious.

3. Barcode: This is usually made up of 13 digits and should be printed on the perfume box. This code can be scanned and tracked to verify its authenticity.

4. Cellophane: Not all perfume boxes use cellophane. Companies are increasingly aware of the negative impact that plastic has on the environment and this material is used less and less. The absence of cellophane will not help you identify whether it is a fake or not.

5. Duration of the scent: The scent of fake perfumes, although in some cases it may be more or less successful, will always last much less time than that of an original perfume. This happens because imitations often do not use the “fixatives”, the most expensive ingredients in perfumes.

6. List of ingredients: Search the Internet for the ingredients of a perfume and check that all of them appear on the perfume box.

7. Price: When the price is significantly lower than in other stores or online shops, be suspicious! Manufacturers protect their products by setting market prices. It is important to always buy from reliable sites and not be fooled by exorbitant discounts on other unknown websites.
