Aquatic perfumes are fresh fragrances that tend to coincide with what are commonly called “clean-smelling perfumes”.
In its composition there is a main ingredient, Calone , a synthetic component, with a structure similar to the pheromones produced by certain types of algae, which provides a marine note to this type of fragrance. The Calone produces the olfactory effect of the sea breeze and traces of ozone, creating an oceanic olfactory effect.
Aquatic perfumes began to gain momentum with the appearance of Davidoff's Cool Water perfume , an emblematic men's fragrance of the 1990s. Subsequently, Aqua di Gió, Kenzo Homme, Dior Dune and Polo Sport by Ralph Lauren emerged.
Although, due to its composition of notes, aquatic is an olfactory group to which many men's perfumes belong, there are also women's perfumes with aquatic notes , such as Cool Water Woman, Acqua di Gioia (the female version Acqua di Gio), refreshing water revitalizing or Eau Pure de Biotherm .
